Encore Performances?

‘CANCER FREE WITH A NEW SET UNDER CONSTRUCTION’ was the original title of this blog. After learning in 2009 I had early stage Breast Cancer, having those boobs removed and rebuilt – I thought that was going to be it.

I’ve had to come up with a new name, following a second diagnosis of Breast Cancer in January 2012 and news in 2014 that I have Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and need a Bone Marrow Transplant to stay alive.

Hi Kate Thank you for being honest about your reaction to treatment. Unlike you I was diagnosed stage 4 straight up, I was 40. I too had a brilliant surgeon who ordered a PET scan for me after I had only 1 hot spot show up on my bone and CT scan. The hot spot wasn’t actually cancer and was the result of a car accident I had 12 years earlier. Unfortunately though the PET Scan show spots through my spine, pelvis, ribs, shoulders and the tops of my legs. The surgeon was in complete shock as I didn’t present as someone who had such extensive cancer. I too had 6 rounds of fec and my wonderful oncologist would book me into John Flynn straight after having chemo, as I have a 3 year old son and the chemo made me so sensitive to noise. The Fec has done its job and I now have no evidence of disease since October last year. My life will never be the same and I feel as the cancer is a shadow that follows me around. But as Dr Stylian said to me on my first appointment where there is life there is hope. We are all united by this terrible disease and I pray that one day cancer will be a thing of the past. I wish you the best of luck with your future and hope that a cure is around the corner for all of us.
    Take care Lisa
